Police in Northwest Indiana are asking for help in finding a man who stabbed and robbed another man before taking off with the victim’s car.

The attack happened around 5:45 last night at the South Shore train station in East Chicago.

Police say the victim was waiting for his wife to get off the train when he went into a station bathroom.

Another man followed him in and slashed the victim’s throat.  Police say the victim tossed the attacker his car keys and wallet, but the man stabbed him again.

The suspect then drove off with the victim’s car, a 2005 silver Honda with Illinois license plate H713340.

Investigators have released a surveillance photo of the attacker. The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark clothing and carrying a green cloth shopping style bag with white letters on the bag.

The attack happened just steps from a police station located inside the train station, but authorities haven’t said whether the police station was staffed at the time.

The victim is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
