CHICAGO — Chicago police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man today near a CTA train stop at Lake Street and Central Avenue in the Austin neighborhood.

The victim, a 21-year-old man, was shot in the chest.  He was taken in critical condition to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police describe the victim as a “documented gang member.”

So far police have no suspects.  They are continuing to look for evidence at the crime scene and will be reviewing footage from at least three cameras near the intersection.

The shooting happened along a Safe Passage route, where adult monitors watch as children go to and from school.
