Man shot by rival gang member while shielding toddler in car seat

A man is accused of shooting a rival gang member as he put his daughter in a car seat.

Esteban Sotelo, 19, is charged with attempted first degree murder and other felonies.

The shooting happened on the 2700 block of West 24th Street, on Friday.

The victim remains hospitalized.

The child wasn’t hurt.

Police say Sotelo admitted to what happened and led officers to the gun.

They say Sotelo was with a 14-year-old boy, for a gang initiation.

The boy was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.
