CHICAGO — Chicago police shot an armed man on the West Side following a chase Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

According to the Chicago Police Department, a woman flagged down officers after a man shot into a vehicle and then tried to shoot her, too, around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police chased the man from the 700 block of North Lawndale Avenue to the 600 block of North Central Park Avenue.

That’s where an officer shot the suspect once in his abdomen after the man refused to put down his gun, officials said. Police recovered a gun on the scene.

The Chicago Fire Department said the man was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious to critical condition.

No officers were injured.
