CHICAGO -- A man was shot and wounded by a Chicago police officer during an 'armed encounter' Sunday morning, according to police.
Officers pulled over a vehicle with stolen license plates in Englewood around 10 a.m., police say, when the three people inside exited and attempted to flee on foot.
A police spokesman said that sometime during the ensuing chase a man engaged one of the officers in an "armed encounter" and was shot multiple times in the "lower extremities." They suspect was transported to Stroger Hospital in unknown condition. No officers were injured.
All three people who fled the vehicle are in custody, according to police, and two weapons were recovered at the scene.
The officers involved will be on administrative duties for 30 days as IPRA conducts a routine use of force investigation.
