URBANA, Ill. — — A man who tortured his girlfriend’s cat, which later died of its injuries, was sentenced to six months in jail and probation.
24-year-old Nathan Sitter, of central Illinois, said in court Wednesday he is ashamed of his actions and is remorseful.
He pleaded guilty in March to one count of animal torture.
According to The Sun-Times, Sitter admitted that in December he repeatedly dunked the cat, named Mocha, under cold water and punched it.
Prosecutors asked for a four-year prison term saying he left the cat to suffer.
But, Sitter’s public defender argued he has been in counseling and had depression.
