Chicago Police found a man dead inside his burned, Gold Coast apartment near the 1100 block of North Lake Shore Drive.

Officers were called to the building Friday night for a well being check after the doorman reported not seeing the resident for quite some time.

Maintenance workers had to cut the chain lock on the inside of the door to gain access to the condo when police found the man’s body next to a burned mattress.

The walls of the apartment were also charred.

No one reported a fire in the building according to police.

Police are still investigating the cause of the incident.
