Man found dead after shooting near Red Line station in Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. —  Evanston police are investigating after a shooting near a CTA station left one man dead.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Howard Street near the Red Line station around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, police said they discover the body of a man who had been shot. Police said the man is a Black male approximately 20 years of age.

His identify has not been released. Police said they are working to identify him and notify his family. 

Chicago police found a second victim, a 21-year-old male nearby. He had suffered a graze wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

Police said the initial investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation that started on the street near Marshfield Avenue and Howard Street.

No other information is available at this time.
