FLOSSMOOR, Ill. — Police found one man dead after entering home due to a fire on Wednesday.

Officials entered a house on the 2000 block of Collett Lane in Flossmoor, Ill., and found a man dead on the lower level of the home.

It is unclear if the man died in the fire or if he was already dead.

Officials have not said if the fire is suspicious or what caused it.

John Woodyatt works next door to where the fire happened and smelled smoke about 1 p.m.

“I stepped outside and the entire top level was engulfed in smoke,” he said.

He took this video of the fire on his phone. In the video, heavy smoke and flames coming out of the house can be seen. He didn’t realize someone was inside.

The State Fire Marshal was also on scene along with Flossmoor Police and Illinois State Police crime technicians. Evidence was being gathered just in case the fire was purposely set or if the man inside met with foul play.
