GARY, Ind. – A man was shot and killed in a restaurant early Saturday morning and now police are searching for two people in connection to the shooting.

A man was found dead at the Philly's Steak & Lemonade Inc. restaurant on the 5400 block of West 25th Avenue around 12:07 a.m. in Gary, Ind.

Police released photos of the suspects, a man and a woman, who they said were last seen in a black SUV traveling west on I-80/94.

Oma Green works as a cashier at the restaurant.

"Two of our regulars came in to buy food and I guess there was a confrontation outside, and it led inside, and some [expletive] thought it was okay to pull out a gun in front of kids and shoot somebody," she said.

Dwight Staples is the manager of the furniture store next door to the restaurant.

"It’s a damn shame. We’re promoting business, we have a family oriented place out here, people are supposed to come out here, enjoy themselves, buy furniture, buy food.  But then, it’s tragic," he said.

Some customers said they were upset, but not shocked by the violence.

“I hate that our city got so much violence, but once you’ve been out here, you kind of get immune to it," Orlando Haymon said.

"This is beginning to be normal. What do you do when this is normalcy?” Apostle East, community activist, said.

East was at the strip mall where the shooting took place to talk to neighbors and businesses.

"The victim, their family needs answers to some unanswered questions, they’re hurting and how do you heal?" East said.

The victim's identity has not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Kristopher Adams of the Lake County/Gary Homicide Unit at 219-755-3855 or call the Crime Tip Line at 866-CRIME-GP.
