A man died after being pulled from Pistakee Lake near Johnsburg Sunday.

The man and two others were on a boat in the lake Sunday afternoon.

Local battalion chief Mike Majercik says two of the three men jumped in the water for a quick swim When the captain of the boat realized he went in with his wallet, he swam back to the boat. But when he looked back for his friend he was gone.

Making matters worse the boat would not restart.

14-year-old Morgan Fassnachd, who lives on the lake with his mother, sister and grandparents was upstairs in his bedroom when he heard screaming about a hundred yards off shore.

McHenry County Sheriffs department marine unit was called in to help.

They located the body of the man but in the process of pulling the body out, the rescue boat flipped over.

The small rescue boat capsized sending two marine unit officers into the water as well but they were wearing life preserves and were soon pulled out unharmed.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s name.
