Man critically injured after South Shore police-involved shooting

CHICAGO — Officials said a man was critically injured after being shot in the South Shore neighborhood during a police-involved shooting.

The Chicago Fire Department said the man was shot near 74th Street and Bennett Avenue just before 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.  Four to five police officers were involved. The officers saw a man with a gun and chased him behind a few houses on the 7400 block of South Bennett Avenue, and then shots were fired.

He man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

It is unclear how many officers discharge their weapons. The Civilian Office for Police Accountability is investigating and will be reviewing surveillance video from the area.
