HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — A man from suburban Hoffman Estates won a $675,000 settlement against a dentist who accidentally dropped a dental file down his throat during a root canal procedure.
The procedure was done at Gentle Dental services in Des Plaines in 2014.
As the dentist wrapped up the procedure, the patient, Janusz Pawlowicz, noticed something wasn’t right.
He said the dentist looked around the room for the file and couldn’t find it. Pawlowicz said he was sent him home and the dentist did not say a word.
Four days later, Pawlowicz began suffering pain and an X-Ray showed the file in his stomach which required surgery to remove it.
The Pawlowicz’s say they are ready to move on.
The dentist involved has not been disciplined by the state.
