An 85-year old Crete man was killed in a “robbery that went terribly wrong,” said Will County investigators.

Alfred Hilton was expected to attend a church event, Wednesday. When he did not show up, one of the church members went to his house in the 3200 block of Bemes Road and made the grisly discovery.

Police say the elderly man had been beaten to death. His home was ransacked and several items were missing. Two individuals who were linked to unfamiliar cars spotted in Hilton’s driveway have been ruled out as strong suspects in the case, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
