A man is in stable condition this morning after he was nearly electrocuted by downed power lines.

It happened  at 4:30 p.m. Monday near 79th Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

The bed of a dump truck was raised and it snagged overhead power lines.

A telephone pole snapped in half, and the power lines fell into the street.

The 63-year-old man touched an SUV that was touching the power lines and was shocked by the electric current.

ComEd crews are still working to restore the power to a nearby library. It’s expected to take several hours.
