A worker was killed in an industrial accident at a Chicago Heights metals plant Thursday morning, officials said.

The victim has been identified as Romellio Cruz, 60, of South Holland.

Fire crews responded at 7 a.m. Thursday to the Vesuvius Factory at 333 State St.

Cruz was on the so-called “dry lines” and apparently wound up in one of the large mixers. Some mixers have blades up to four feet long.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been transported to the medical examiner for an autopsy.

Sources who knew Cruz said he was a great, hard working, family man who was with the company for about 10 years.

Vesuvius is a company which produces cement-like materials for clients like power and steel plants.

OSHA was notified and is on scene as the Chicago Heights Detective Division conducts a death investigation.
