The U.S. Post Office is investigating how hundreds of pieces of undelivered mail ended up in the trash.

A man found 600 letters in his dumpster last Thursday, in the 3500 block of West Thorndale Avenue.

It belonged to residents in the 60659 zip code, in Chicago’s North Park neighborhood.

The man called police and the post office, which sent three workers to collect the discarded mail.

A Post Office official says the mail has since been delivered, and the case was handed over to its Inspector General’s Office.
