DARIEN, Ill. — A lightning strike caused a home to catch fire in the Pinehurst subdivision in southwest suburban Darien.

A neighbor saw lightning hit the roof of the house in the 1500 block of Pine View Court at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The lightning blew a big hole in the roof and sparked a fire in the attic and a second-floor bedroom.

The homeowner and his dog escaped without injury.

He told his neighbors he was watching the Cubs game and had no idea his home was on fire until they came to tell him.
