CHICAGO  – Chicago’s Interim Police Superintendent John Escalante is shaking up the leadership of the Chicago Police Department.

Escalante has appointed a new management team through a series of staff promotions and assignments.

The police department says the moves will build on the department’s public safety efforts and fill critical voids that have been left vacant.

The new appointments create the most diverse police command staff in the history of the department.

Fifty-percent of police chiefs and fifty-percent of deputy chiefs are African American and more women have been appointed to serve in executive leadership roles.

Escalante was appointed Interim Superintendent after Garry McCarthy resigned in the wake of several police shootings.
