CHICAGO — Jewel warehouse workers and delivery drivers voted Friday to authorize a strike.
Their union told the Chicago Sun-Times that the grocer has forced employees to work six days a week since the pandemic began. It also says Jewel discontinued pandemic hazard pay in July, and is failing to hire more workers due to low starting wages.
Jewel has not commented.
The workers’ contract expires next month and there is currently no indication on when a potential strike would begin.
