ITALY — A court in Italy ruled that child support doesn’t always have to involve money.
It all started when Nicola Toso agreed to pay about $335 in monthly child support after his divorce in 2002.
But then he ran into money problems six years later, so he offered to pay his ex-wife in pizza instead.
The payments would come from Toso’s pizza business. Calzones and other meals were also an option.
But his ex-wife wasn’t that hungry, so she took him to court. But the judge ruled in the father’s favor.
“In lieu of money, the defendant offered his ex-wife the same amount of compensation in the form of take-away pizzas from his workplace, an offer promptly rejected as `beggar`s change'”, said Judge Chiara Bitozzi in her ruling.
The judge found there was no evidence of any crime being committed.
