CHICAGO — A new survey finds Illinois still has the second highest property taxes in the nation.

Personal finance website says only New Jersey has a higher property tax rate than Illinois. Taxes vary across the state, but the average rate in Illinois is 2.25 percent.

The lowest rate is in Hawaii, with just over .25 percent. But a median home in Honolulu is half a million dollars. That’s three times as much as a home in Illinois.
