ANDALUSIA, Ill. — It was canine companionship at its finest: A dog saves another dog in danger.

According to WQAD, a black lab fell through the ice at a water treatment plant in western Illinois Thursday, near the Iowa border.

Another black lab found a worker, and led him to the dog in trouble.

Several employees went out in a boat and rescued that dog. They kept it warm in their truck until animal control arrived.

Animal Control thinks the dogs were chasing geese and ducks when the ice cracked.

The rescued dog was taken to the vet to get checked out, and scanned for a microchip.

The hero dog ran off.
