CHICAGO -– Legendary rock club Double Door is being forced to close its Wicker Park location after a judge ruled in favor of the venue’s landlord in eviction proceedings Thursday.

The back-and-forth court battle between Double Door and its landlord lasted for months.  At issue was whether the venue’s owners exercised the option to renew their lease in time. They claim to have done so in a letter last April but the landlord said he never received anything. The lease expired at the end of October.

Judge Orville Hambright Jr. asked Double Door and its landlord to return to court next month to decide when the club needs to close its doors, the Chicago Tribune Reports.

The Double Door has been at Milwaukee and Damen in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood for more than 20 years.
