A homeowner who killed a burglar will not face any criminal charges.
It happened in the West Pullman neighborhood Thursday morning.
Mark Hayes heard the alarm in his garage going off, so he went to check it out. That’s when he was confronted by another man, identified as 52-year-old Harold Cornell.
Cornell tried to attack Hayes with a hammer but Hayes fought back and stabbed him with a fishing knife.
Cornell fled the scene and made it to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
