A grieving father said goodbye to his wife and newborn son in a very beautiful way.

Last week, a video of Chris Picco singing The Beatles’ “Blackbird” to his dying newborn son touched hearts around the world. His wife Ashely passed away after his son Lennon was delivered by emergency C-section at 24 weeks.  Lennon survived the initial procedure but died a few days later.

Over the weekend, Picco spoke at a memorial service for Ashley and Lennon at a church in Loma Linda, Calif.

He thanked his friends, family and people from around the world who have reached out to him to express their condolences. He also talked about meeting Ashely while volunteering at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11 attacks in New York City.

“One of the themes of our relationship for me and Ashley, as it’s been said, is that we met as a result of a tragic, tragic event — an unspeakable tragedy we met as a result of a tragic, tragic event — an unspeakable tragedy,” Picco said. “That’s how we met. So something good came from something so tragic. So from this unspeakable tragedy, that’s what I want. I want good to come out of this.”

Picco finished with a rendition of “This Is My Father’s World,” set to a photo montage of Lennon’s short life.
