Prairie Village, KS (KCTV) — More than $1,000 literally flew right into one local woman hands, and she she returned it to its rightful owner.

Paul Riekhof was late to a movie date with his wife for their 53rd anniversary.

In a hurry, he got in his car and drove off with an envelope with $1,580 of cash on the top of his car.

“I thought there wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell somebody picking up $1,600 and turning it in,” he said.

Riekhof had the money after selling his brother-in-laws car Tuesday night. After filing a police report, Riekhof said goodbye to cash and called it a night.

“We had given up, we thought the money is gone,” Riekhof said.

His wife insisted that he left the money on top of the car and it was gone. After turning their house upside down, that was the logical answer.

“It blew off the car just when we turned the corner probably” he said.

Riekhof said his savior, Holli Williams, was heading in the opposite direction along Somerset Drive.

“I don’t know how in the world she knew that white envelope was money. She thought enough about it to stop and pick up the envelope,” Riekhof said.

KCTV5 News tracked down Williams, but she was unavailable for comment Wednesday.

Williams told Riekhof that Prairie Village police put her in contact with him.

“I was greatly relieved. What a miracle on Christmas. In the end, I learned two things. One, don’t put anything you don’t want to lose on top of your car. And two, always believe your wife, she’s usually right,” Riekhof said.
