CHICAGO — With the winter conditions and temperatures dropping, it’s more important than ever to make sure you and your vehicle are ready for the road.
Main roads are clear of snow, but keep in mind could still see slick spots, or run into engine problems because of the cold temperatures..
About 30 vehicles were involved in a pile up just outside Indianapolis Tuesday morning. And closer to home, we saw several serious crashes, including one on the Ike, thanks to the winter weather.
AAA is reminding drivers to take it slow in these conditions. Avoid braking on ice, and if you’re approaching ice, brake during your approach. Also: control your skid.
Take your car in for a winter check up. It’s about $40 bucks and a half-hour of your time, to save big in the long run.
At home you can check to make sure your tires are properly inflated. Top off your windshield washer fluid, and check your battery for any dirt or corrosion. If you see it, use warm water to clean it off, or Coke.
Also make sure you have an emergency kit in your car just incase you get stranded or stuck: a cell phone, charger, jumper cables, and ice scraper.
