LOS ANGELES — Did George Lucas bite the hand that fed us the latest edition of “Star Wars”? That’s up to others to decide — but the creator of the franchise is apologizing for putting his foot in his mouth with comments he made about Disney.

Lucas describes Disney honchos as “white slavers” — because of the way they handled the franchise. What he meant isn’t clear — but the comparison of the handling of a lucrative movie franchise with enslavement of people didn’t sit well.

Lucas says in a statement yesterday that he misspoke and used what he calls “a inappropriate analogy.” He also says he wants to be clear that he feels Disney has moved the Star Wars brand in what he calls “such exciting directions.”
