CRYSTAL LAKE — A former staff member at Crystal Lake High School is out on bond tonight, charged with battery in a sex scandal allegedly involving some of his students.

Police say they’ve been investigating this since last month, when they got a tip that a high school staff member may have been providing alcohol to his students and having sex with them at his home.

35-year-old Justin Hubly was charged today with two counts of battery and one count of providing alcohol to a minor. He posted $10,000 bond and is out awaiting a court appearance next month.

Police say they’ve identified two alleged victims to far, and tonight they’re working to determine if there are more. Hubly had been the choir director at Crystal Lake Central High School since 2004.

He abruptly resigned at a special meeting of the school board back on Nov. 8. All the district is saying as of Wednesday is that it’s cooperating with the police investigation. Police aren’t saying much either, only that their investigation’s ongoing and they’re considering additional charges against Justin Hubly.

The 35-year-old bonded out shortly after being charged today. He’s free pending a court appearance on Dec. 27.
