Serving the City of Chicago and its people for more than a decade, Norma Reyes has passed away.

The 56-year-old had various high profile positions in city and Cook County government.

Her older sister said her cause of death is not known but the family is heartbroken.

Reyes served as the city’s Deputy Chief of Staff under the Daley Administration from 2001 to 2003, and Commissioner of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection from 2004 until she retired two years ago.

She also worked as a Cook County Assistant State’s attorney for nine years prior to working for the city.

Former mayor Richard Daley released a statement calling Reyes a wonderful person with a sense of humor and duty to provide opportunities for the less fortunate.
