LOS ANGELES -- A former Chicago high school basketball star has been shot and killed in Los Angeles.
20-year-old Saieed Ivey played youth football, until he switched over to basketball and played for Simeon High School.
His friends and family say he was an inspiration, the life of the party and the guy who checked on everybody to make sure they were ok.
His family gathered at his mother’s house in suburban Glenwood Thursday. Word of Ivey's death came early this morning from California.
Ivey's family says they were expecting him to fly from California to Chicago this weekend for his younger brother and sister's high school graduation.
Reports from L.A. say Ivey was discovered inside a vehicle this morning dead of a gunshot wound in the upper torso.
Friends say Ivy lived by the motto "failure is not an option."
After Simeon he continued to pursue his basketball dreams at East Los Angeles College. He was hoping from there he might get a chance to play professionally.
Saieed Ivy's mother flew to California today. The family is looking for answers about his death.
