4 people injured in West Side fire

Several people were injured in a fire at an residential  hotel on Chicago’s West Side Saturday night.

One person jumped from the building’s third floor. Several others had to be rescued from windows by firefighters.

The fire began at 7:26am inside the J R Plaza hotel at 3001 West Jackson.

The fire was put out a short time later.   However, four people were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The man who jumped was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical but stable condition.

A fire department spokesman says the fire began with materials inside the building.

Twenty-five adults who were living on the third floor of the hotel have been displaced.  The Red Cross is on the scene, assisting those residents.
