Fire captain injured in Bronzeville blaze

CHICAGO – A fire captain was seriously injured this afternoon while battling an apartment fire in Bronzeville.

Firefighters were called to the building in the 4700 block of King Drive just after 1 p.m..

About 15 minutes later, a mayday call went out. The captain's mask had somehow come loose and he became disoriented.

He suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Eight people inside the building have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
