Fire guts family home on Chicago’s Northwest Side

CHICAGO — A family of four is safe after a fire completely gutted their Northwest Side home Monday

Authorities say the fire started in the basement of the home, located at 3229 N. Oriole Avenue. A young girl discovered the smoke and alerted her father. The father was able to get the girl and one of the family dogs out of the house.

The mother and other children were not home at the time.

The fire also damaged neighboring homes, and its cause is under investigation.
