Hundreds of people participated in the last Chicago-area Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk for breast cancer this weekend.
The walk began in Northbrook Friday morning an ended 60 miles later at Soldier Field.
Survivors, families and supporters made the trek a final time this weekend. Susan G. Komen says it’s closing down half of its walks next year. The organization has canceled future walks in Chicago and six other cities, due to a drop in participation.
The organization cites the economy for the drop in participation. The foundation encountered controversy last year over their decision to no longer give funding to Planned Parenthood. They reversed that decision but faced criticism from both sides of the abortion debate.
