It’s an emotional day for the family of a toddler who was mauled and killed by a dog over the weekend.

Two year old Jah’Niyah White was taken to the hospital, where she died on Saturday after being attacked by a dog at her grandfather’s home.

The family gathered at the home on East 91st Street to set up a memorial of stuffed animals in memory of Jah’Niya.  “The person who did this,” Britt Williams Nelson said, “I want to see behind bars.”  Williams Nelson is the paternal grandmother of the child.

“All I want is justice,” the child’s mother, Kashairah Gardner, said.

Police are investigating the homicide — calling it a noncriminal death investigation.  The Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating the grandfather for allegations of abuse related to the death.

The girl’s mother told the Chicago Tribune she is going to give needy children the Christmas toys she had planned to give Jah’Niyah.
