CHICAGO -- A tree behind St. Kevin Church in Chicago's South Deering neighborhood is gaining attention after residents spotted an image believed to depict the Virgin Mary.

The image was first noticed at the same time the church celebrated a special mass, marking its 135th anniversary.

“In this neighborhood, violence is pretty high,” said visitor Mario Zuniga. “It gives us hope, it gives us faith that things are going to get better.”

Those who believe this image is a sign have started to leave flowers and other items at the site.
