Extra alarm fire destroys three businesses in Evanston

Three businesses are destroyed after  a fire that erupted at a restaurant in downtown Evanston.

Evanston spokeswoman Martha Logan said the blaze started at 2:24 a.m. at the Pine Yard Restaurant near the corner of Davis Street and Oak Avenue and at 2:34 a.m. it was elevated to an extra alarm.

At 3:36 a.m. a second alarm went off when flames spread. Three business are destroyed in the 1000 block of Davis Street, and a fourth business is being threatened. Thirteen animals at a nearby animal hospital have been evacuated.

One firefighter who suffered an ankle injury while fighting the fire was taken to Evanston Hospital with an ankle injury.

Multiple neighboring fire departments are assisting.
