ELMHURST, Ill. — A man died after shooting himself at an Elmhurst hospital’s parking lot after allegedly shooting his stepdaughter in the face.

The man has been identified as 73-year-old Robert Shek and the woman as 44-year-old Imelda Shek.

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Elmhurst police got a call from Elmhurst Memorial Hospital about a “man with a gun” in the parking lot after a woman had entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound.

Police arrived to the scene and found Robert in the parking lot suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to the emergency room by paramedics, and died a short time later.

Imelda had initially told police that her father had shot her and then shot himself in the hospital parking lot. But she is reportedly Robert’s stepdaughter.

Imelda was transported to Loyola Hospital in critical condition.

Elmhurst Hospital was placed on lockdown, but was given the all-clear after around 7:40 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
