A top-notch, Chicago Public High School receives a state-of-the-art renovation.
Mayor Emanuel and C.P.S. C.E.O. Barbara Byrd-Bennett attended a ribbon-cutting Tuesday morning for Jones College Prep High School on the 600 block of South State Street.
The renowned school will be able to double its student body to a total of 1700 by 2016. It also has a lot of new facilities, including a world-class track and field venue.
“Before, they went to Harold Washington for the library. Now, they go upstairs. Before they had no gym. They actually had to use the weight room down the block. Now they have a gym. Before, they had no music space. They now have a music space,” said Emanuel.
The existing Jones College Prep, located one block south, will remain open as a way to accept more eligible students.
11,000 kids applied to Jones College Prep for this school year.
