One of the fallen soldiers in the latest Fort Hood shooting attack was laid to rest Saturday.

Family, friends, and even strangers gathered for the funeral of Sergeant Timothy Owens in Rolla, Missouri Saturday.

The 37-year-old native of Effingham, Illinois died last week trying to talk the gunman down at the army base in Texas.

Three thousand flags lined the streets of Rolla in honor of Wwens and his service.

He was in the army for 10 years, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Owens had just re-enlisted for another six years.

The military says Army Specialist Ivan Lopez opened fire on the base last week killing three people and wounding 16, before taking his own life.
