Glencoe police suspect coyotes are to blame after two Maltese dogs have been attacked in the north suburb in the past three days.

They deal with this every year around this time – late April, early May – when the coyotes are denning and having their pups. The dens can be just about anywhere and the coyotes are very protective of those dens, which can become a problem for neighboring little dogs.

Police have contacted a specialist to look around for coyote dens.  They’ve done a coyote cull here in the past and they’re not ruling out doing it again.

Officials say coyotes will rarely attack a person but warn residents to be cautious.
