DHS extends Real ID deadline for Illinoisans to May 2023


CHICAGO — Illinoisans don’t have to stress about the deadline to get a REAL ID anytime soon.

The Department of Homeland Security pushed back the requirement deadline to May 2023 due to the pandemic. The new deadline is May 3, 2023.

The original deadline for Illinois residents was Oct. 1

The government recommends that residents get a Real ID if they do not possess a passport.
