LOS ANGELES -- Kanye West is going on the defensive, trying to explain his bizarre stunt at sunday's Grammy awards, jumping on stage as Beck was accepting the award for Album of the Year.

On Ryan Seacrest's radio show Wednesday, West explained that  it started as a joke, inside his head.

"Everybody was looking at me, and then people started screaming, 'Kanye! Kanye! Go do it!'" he said. "OK, that didn't really happen. These were voices in my head."

He also talked about his 2009 stage stunt with Taylor Swift, saying she came up to him immediately after Sunday's incident and said he should have stayed on stage and had his say. West said that they were planning on doing an album together and also apologized to Beck.

Rambling at times, West also compared the Grammy's to the Super Bowl for musicians, criticizing the show for taking advantage of the popularity of stars like Beyonce to promote the show but not honoring them with major awards.
