CHICAGO — One of the many A-listers who are part of the Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect” coming out next month.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson stars as the queen of soul but is joined by Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Mary J. Blige and also Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner Audra McDonald who plays young Aretha’s mother.

In a Zoom chat last week, McDonald talked to WGN’s Dean Richards about the movie but also about a tweet she had posted that day.

“Respect” opens on Aug. 13.
