Friday is the deadline for communities in Illinois to enact restrictions on assault weapons.

Already, a dozen cities and villages, including Chicago, have passed weapons bans.

More than a dozen others are expected to vote by the end of the day.

30 other communities considered banning the weapons, but decided against it.

Local governments were given 10 days to pass their own gun limits, after the Illinois general assembly enacted a bill allowing licensed gun owners to carry concealed handguns in public.

The Illinois State Rifle association says some of the local ordinances probably will be challenged in court.
