HOMEWOOD, Ill. — Homewood police have confirmed that the 78-year-old man whose body was found inside a burning house in Homewood this week was a homicide victim.

James Kerrigan was found Wednesday after the Homewood Fire Department put out a fire about 8:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of 185th Street.

An autopsy released Friday found that Kerrigan died from multiple sharp force injuries before he was left in the burning home. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the case a homicide.

Kerrigan lived on the same block where he was stabbed.

No one is in custody.
