DARIEN, Ill. – A Walmart in Darien, Ill., was evacuated Tuesday afternoon due to a suspicious package.

The Walmart, located at 2189 75th Street, was evacuated around 11 a.m.

Officials said the package was in a garbage can in the front of the store. Police said an employee noticed the package, which consisted of batteries, wires and flashing lights. Police said based on the package’s appearance and not knowing what the device was, the store was evacuated for the safety of customers and employees.

The DuPage County Bomb Squad was called in and determined the package was not a threat.

Police said after investigating and reviewing security cameras, they determined that the device was actually a “store display aid” that was no longer needed and was thrown away.
