WHEELING Ill. — A crash that sent two vehicles flying onto the grounds of Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling Wednesday morning left two people dead.
Loved ones say 39-year-old Jose Urbano of Prospect Heights was on his way to work about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when his SUV and a box truck from the company Vivint Solar collided at Wolf Road and Messner Drive.
The force of the violent collision pushed both vehicles through the perimeter fence of Chicago Executive Airport.
Urbano was killed, and a passenger in the box truck later identified as David A. Sosa of Chicago was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries.
The truck’s 21-year-old driver, identified as Araujo Rivaldi of Prospect Heights, was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators say initial indications show the box truck may have run the stop sign on Messner Road before crashing into Urbano’s SUV.
Vivint Solar did not reply to requests for comment. Airport officials said no planes were threatened by the crash and flights were not impacted.
